Woman’s Project in Nagpur, India

Background

We started this project because of the high rate of domestic violence that is still happening to women in India. According to the 2002 study, 45 percent of Indian women are slapped, kicked or beaten by their husbands. India also had the highest rate of violence during pregnancy. Of the women reporting violence, 50 percent were kicked, beaten or hit when pregnant. About 74.8 percent of the women who reported violence have attempted to commit suicide.
Domestic violence experts say the problem in India stems from a cultural bias against women who challenge their husband's right to control their behavior. Women who do this -- even by asking for household money or stepping out of the house without their permission -- are seen as punishable. This process leads men to believe their notion of masculinity and manhood is reflected to the degree to which they control their wives.

i. Sliding scale
The amount we request for taking part in the Facilitating Change Program is on a sliding scale of $4,500 -7,500 for the year, plus room and board, with a median of $6,000. Room and board will be approximately $70 per day, on site; camping or bedrolling may also be available at $40 per day.

ii. Group participation
We have found that two or more people learning NVC together deepens the impact and integration of NVC in an organization; wanting to support this kind of learning, we encourage two or more people from an organization to register for the program together. To support several registering from one organization, we invite each person in the ‘group” to deduct $500 per person from the sliding scale.

iii. Accessibility
We have a commitment to inclusion in the FC program (and all resources in society), regardless of financial means. At the same time, we desire support and ease of support in offering this program, and a sense of shared partnership, contribution, and community. If you’d like to support yourself or others in joining the program at a contribution below the sliding scale requested, we ask you to consider joining our fundraising team. We would also welcome your contributing support in other ways; please contact us for details! In our desire to create a world of interdependence and mutual support, we ask you to consider inviting friends, family, faith and community organizations and/or your employer to financially support you in participating in the Facilitating Change program. We would also welcome your support in letting others know about the FC program.

A Growing NVC Community in South Korea

NVC Korea

In 2003, when NVC was just beginning in South Korea, certified trainer Katherine Singer would meet with people in coffee shops or each others' homes and offices. Since then we have been enjoying tremendous interest in NVC and strong growth as an NVC community here in Korea. Out of this growth, and with a passion for sharing NVC with wider groups on a steady basis, Katherine founded the Korean Center for Nonviolent Communication in 2006, with the help and support of those who wished to have a place to gather for learning and sharing NVC.

Course Description:

The biggest challenge in today’s world seems a
struggle how to live peacefully together in different settings and structures.
Art of Living Together is not always easy to master. We are carrying in our
hearts a dream to come together in Estonia each year for one week around Eastern (we
celebrate - this will be already 7th time!) to sharpen our abilities of living together
so that we can bring our experiences and skills back to our everyday lives.

Practice the principles of NVC!

Our intention within these seven days is to create an
intensive experiment and experience of how relationships work. We want to live
in a community where we explore what can be created when people value connection
and honesty, and practice tools that can help us in living these values.

Come and let’s experiment together how can we create an
environment where trust and honesty, even around painful issues, are valued and
your needs are as important as everyone’s else’s!

Our aim is to offer you and ourselves possibility for personal
growth through deepening Noviolent Communication skills and awareness.

Topics in this experimental week include the spiritual
foundation of NVC, living NVC

within ourselves, in our relationships, and in the
world, working with intimate relationships, anger, guilt, shame, money issues,
scarcity thinking and much more. All participants are welcome to offer sessions
on topics that are mostly valuable for themselves.

Peace Rising: Afghanistan

Afghanistan

My heart is tender with hope and all it took was one day with Afghan children rich in giving and receiving. We sang, drew, painted, colored and played connecting at the human needs level. We created a country within a country for a day. A country where no one got in trouble or punished and all were treated equal with a chance to express their own aliveness. We created a country with laughter, joy, safety, ease, harmony, community, belonging, inclusion, inspiration, creativity and happiness.  While just outside the borders, the windows of the building, men stood in their country armed with guns. A reminder that not all have learned yet that there can be more fun and effective ways to meet human needs.
